BVIS Ch Bearsteps Outback Annie of Akiba, ROM-X, CGC December 31, 1989 - May 13, 2005

In February 1991 she finished her championship winning Best of Breed over specials and placing third in the group that day. Almost to the day 12 years later; in February 2003; she walked into the ring and won the Veterans group and went on to win Best Veteran In Show. While she showed for me her real calling was motherhood and she was the ultimate mother; twice Terrier Type Magazine named her a Top Producing Dam. She was #1 Top Producing Dam in 1994. She earned her ROM-Excellent in 1997 and in 2001 at the Raritan Valley Australian Terrier Club Specialty she won first in the 9-12 year Veteran Bitch class.

She was my heart dog and my bed buddy for almost 16 years. She was my first Aussie and to me she will always be the best one. Annie introduced me to a new life where I have enjoyed some success and made a lot of great friends. She did everything on her terms till the end. Even though her body was failing she would not leave me. For those of you who knew her well you know she was the "boss". She ruled the house with an iron paw and was the quintessential "bitch"

Annie crossed over the bridge on Friday, May 13, 2005 The doctors really could never pin point exactly what was going on but in the last week her body began to fail. Best guess was colon cancer. Her Vet Dr. Wagner, my good friend Cat and I were with her.

She lives on in the majority of the dogs I own today as she was the foundation for my breeding program. I couldn't have started with a better bitch. I know she will be met at the Bridge by lots of friends and family. My heart is breaking but I know we will be reunited someday.

As a friend stated one time he wasn't the biggest Aussie but he had the biggest heart. He was the son of my beloved Annie. He was my first home bred Special and one of my fondest memories was showing him in Veterans at Montgomery County at the Nationals and he was having the time of his life; leaping and jumping. The judge said to me "someone needs to tell this guy he's a Veteran". He loved to show and loved the attention. He never slowed down He passed his outstanding personality on to his offspring, many of them having the same silly traits he did. He often greeted new people by airplaning his ears, squinting his eyes and smiling at them; all the while snorting. It was a hoot to see. I'm sure he is met at the Rainbow Bridge by his Mom Annie, Dad Barney and others who have passed before him. Rest well little guy - you will be missed.
